About Us

Steve Sumner Attorney

stevesumnerSteve graduated from the USC School of Law in 1992.  As a student, he was named to the "Order of the Wig and Robe" for superior academic achievement. Additionally, Steve was part of the "Mock Trial Competition" winning team at USC, which represented USC in the Southeastern regional of the national competition.

Steve served as a state court prosecutor from 1992 to 1994.  His primary case load consisted of prosecuting DUI, Felony DUI, Reckless Homicide and Traffic offenses.  

In 1997, Steve opened his own practice as a criminal defense attorney, with a special focus on defending clients accused of DUI, Felony DUI, all driving offenses and drug cases.

Steve currently represents clients in over 25 courts in Upstate South Carolina. These courts include Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Pickens and Laurens counties; as well as the city/municipal courts of Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Simpsonville, Mauldin, Greer, Fountain Inn, Easley, Clemson, Central, and Laurens.

Scott (Scotty) Roberson Staff Investigator

scottyrobersonScotty joined Attorney Steve Sumner in 2003, after a fourteen year career in law enforcement. Scotty's area of specialization was alcohol and drug related offenses. He was awarded the A.C.E. Distinction in 2000 by the Office of the Director of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. In 2001, he was awarded the Traffic Safety Officer (TSO) designation by the Office of the Governor of South Carolina. He also received the Greenville County Sheriff's Office "Distinguished Service Award".

Scotty has presented for Defense Attorneys, Public Defenders and at the college level and has served as an instructor for Defense Attorneys in South Carolina, Indiana and Colorado in the areas of field sobriety testing and breath testing, along with their proper implementation.  He has testified in numerous courts as an expert on DUI and proper breath testing procedures and has reviewed thousands of DUI cases from across the country.  He is nationally certified (NHTSA) as an instructor in field sobriety testing, and has received advanced training in the drug recognition expert curriculum (DRE).  Scotty has completed the supervisors program at the National Patent Factory in Ohio for the DataMaster breath testing device that is used exclusively in the state of South Carolina.

With over 40 years of combined experience, Steve and Scotty have been involved in over 2,000 DUI cases.

Jamie Brandon Paralegal

jamiebrandonJamie joined our firm in 2005, after working for the Selective Enforcement Division of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office for six years. The Selective Enforcement Division encompasses patrol, traffic enforcement, and vice and narcotics. Jamie had extensive "hands on" dealings with local and state law enforcement officers, agencies, courts and the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV). She also helped direct and coordinate the Safe Communities Program, which dealt directly with officers involved with DUI enforcement.

Jamie handles all scheduling, and is the initial liaison with the courts and SCDMV. Jamie will be your primary main contact for appointments, scheduling, and general questions regarding the status of your case.

 

 

Jessica Antonucci Legal Assistant

jessicaantonucciJessica joined our firm in 2010, after working as a court reporter for fifteen years. She transcribes the firm's dictation, hearings, depositions and audio files.  Jessica maintains the backbones of our caseload and is a vital part of our team.
